Whats your thoughts on things lately?

Practically everything about being a fan feels different for me now. It has for a long time and I don't think things will ever feel the same again. I thought that not being at the fan club would we very difficult for me. It hasn't been nearly as difficult as I expected. With the changes that have taken place, I can't see myself going back not that it matters. I know that I've always been on the outside looking in, never really fitting into this community anyway. It does seem pretty quiet at the boards where I do still post, thought to be honest I don't post much anywhere anymore. I can understand having issues with some in the fan base. I think that some are more "equal" than others. I feel like there are cliques and sometimes it all feels like a popularity contest. I don't like the way some can dismiss other people's opinions as invalid simply because they don't agree, and the way fans can treat other fans sometimes. There can be a real disregard for other people's feelings. The whole "good" fan vs."bad" fan things bothers me. I guess it sounds harsh and I realize this is not the only fanbase where things like this happen, it's just how I feel. I'm not nearly as excited as I thought I would be about a new album, tour ect. Maybe it's because I'm finding it harder to be a fan in the states. I try to be hopeful about a tour but it's hard. What Janie said about people wondering how how TTATS is really going to come off... maybe I've been thinking alot more about that than I can to admit.

you know what else makes things quiet? The fact that many fans are uncertain about what they can talk about due to potential "illegalness" or having people shaking their finger at them. I mean, i've been watching people discreetly passing around the larger video of Darkness and it some ways it's probably better to be discreet like that but it also means it takes the video longer to get around and for people to see (since the website one doesn't appear to be working for everyone and god knows when they will get a bigger/working version up) so there isn't the same rush of excitement you get when people are freely passing around a video to their friends/fans.

I understand the need to keep people from going overboard in the media department but sometimes i get the impression that those that officially (and unofficially) push that "tsk tsk don't share media that doesn't belong to you, it belongs to Darren!" idea at other fans are very much cutting off their nose to spite their face.

I haven't watched the Darkness video yet...why, I can't really answer. I still listen to TTATS, well the first 7 songs anyway and I still don't 'feel', I like them, they're ok, but they're not speaking to me this time round and you know what I just feel numb.

Today I took down the posters I had on the wall in front of me of DH, one a SG fanzine which I placed on the back of the door the others I threw out.

Guess that explains how I feel about things today.

Steen and littlebird thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. Perhaps things could be quiet because many may now feel disheartened and maybe somewhat confused but find it hard to share that elsewhere.

All I know is that it's a damned sight easier just to like and enjoy an artist/group than to be a 'fan'.

As far as the world of DH goes, there're far too many Chiefs and not enough Indians imho. [img]frown.gif[/img]

Steen, I know what you mean. It's a shame that certain ppl can't get past their perceived officialdom and just let other ppl get on with being fans and enjoying themselves. It's all gotten so serious of late and quite frankly, the fun and camararderie has all but disappeared now.

LOL Terry, makes me glad i have the bare minimum of officialness there could possibly be and still be a moderator XD

I just feel sad and disillusioned tonight. I've read the thread on sony and I just can't bring myself to add anything, then again I've said it all I think. Ah a good nights sleep will work wonders hopefully.

^^^^^ aint that the truth. When you dont get too involved you can just enjoy the music without all the influences affecting that.

I think some people take it too far as well. If I had a decent copy of dakness I would be putting it out there for all to see and bugger the PTB. We shouldnt have to go around worrying about them. They can worry about us instead. I mean really who gives a toss. I think a video promotion aint gonna harm Darren or anyone. I think some of those people with there power really screw up their own cause. They do take all the fun out of it for sure.

Barb, I am sorry you cant like the album.. you sound like your in the place I was when SG broke up and then we got Spin... I think Im in a much better place now TTATS did restore my faith in him as I really love it.

But my gripe with him today is LOL that he said in some interviewy chat thingy when asked about SG reunion that he didnt think it was possible as he couldnt write those kind of songs anymore???? WTF??? and here I was thinking "MIne" and "GDR" and TTMAB etc were some damm fine classics that will go down as musical magic. Geez I think he has even forgotten he could write more than IKILY.

i have a fairly decent version of Darkness, my only problem is that it's huge and there is nowhere i can store it right now that won't get totally killed in terms of bandwidth lol

Yes i saw that quote and i was really frustrated by it, i mean does he really think all we liked were the ballads and sappy love songs?? @_@ It's as if i said "i don't wanna do fantasy art anymore because i can't draw anymore dragons" i mean holy crap, way to limit your own craft!
